Bearcats tie 9-9 against Tigers

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Adairsville High School Tigers battled to a 9-9 tie Wednesday in the Farm Credit Invitational Baseball Tournament at the Bearcat Diamond.
The Bearcats led 9-3 going into the bottom of the seventh and final regulation inning. The key blow in the inning was an RBI double to left field that got the final two tying runs home.
The Tigers came up with six in the top of the seventh to pull even 9-9. The team went two extra innings before the game was called because the Tigers and the Robert F. Munroe High School Bobcats from Quincy, Florida, were waiting to play the final game of the night.
The Bearcats got out of a bases-loaded, no-outs situation without a run scoring in the top of the first inning. Tigers left fielder Blane Bishop opened the inning with a single to center. Seth Howard followed with an infield hit and Shane McDermit singled up the middle to load the bases. Starting pitcher Stanton Long struck out Colin Bearden swinging.
The next batter lined out to third baseman Will Kelley and he threw to first baseman Seth Hall for the double play.
The score remained tied 0-0 until the top of the second when the Tigers pushed across to go up 1-0. A single to left and a steal of second put the go ahead run in scoring position.
The Tigers pushed across another run in the top of the third on a single a fielder’s choice and an RBI single to left field.
The Bearcats cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the third. Blake Merchant got the run home with an RBI single to center. They went ahead 4-2 with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Left fielder Carson Inlow doubled to open the inning and promptly stole second and third. He came home on a wild pitch. Center fielder Anderson Bailey and shortstop Keith Lyle followed with singles and came around to score. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the sixth to pull even 4-4.
The Bearcats scored six runs in the top of the sixth to go up 9-3. The key blow was a two run single to centerfield by first baseman Seth Hall.
The Bearcats returned to tournament action Friday when they hosted the Bobcats at 6 p.m. They will return to regular season action Tuesday when they travel to Tallahassee take on the Leon High School Lions at 4:30 p.m.
They will take on the Lincoln High School Trojans Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. in Tallahassee.
