Tallahassee’s Leon High School Lions scored three runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth Monday to break a 1-1 tie on the way to a 9-3 victory over the Bainbridge High School Bearcats at Bearcat Field.
Both teams scored single runs in the first. In the Lions’ fifth, a two-run triple and a wild pitch got three runs home. A pair of RBI doubles produced the Lions five runs in the sixth.
Bearcats sophomore shortstop Keith Lyle had a single and a triple and drove in a run. In the field he threw two runners out from deep in the hole.
In the Bearcats sixth Carson Inlow reached on an error by the second baseman, and came in on a triple to right center by Keith Lyle who came in on a ground out to second.
“We couldn’t ever get anybody on base,” coach Brian McCorkle said. “They made some plays. We hit our balls right at them. I thought we played good defense, some nice plays at shortstop and centerfield. We gave up five runs in one inning, but we’ll get those things fixed.”
The Bearcats return to action today when they host Adairsville at 7 p.m. They will have a rematch with Leon Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in Tallahassee. On Friday they are scheduled to host Tallahassee’s Lincoln High School Lions at 7 p.m.
The Bearcats first Region 1-AAAA action will come Monday, March 2, when they host the Dougherty High School Trojans in a doubleheader.
