Roberta Daniel King, 97, of Brinson, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Brinson Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Crapps and Rev. Ellis Hardwick officiating and will conclude in the church. Interment will be at Brinson Cemetery.

“Miss Bert” was born October 30, 1917 in Morgan, Georgia, the daughter of the late Peter Ivy Daniel and Frances Dozier Daniel. A long-time resident of Brinson, she was a member of Brinson Baptist church where she served as pianist and organist. She also served many times as the VBS Director and teacher, and as a Sunday School teacher for both children and adults. She attended Georgia College in Milledgeville, Ga. and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus. She began her teaching career in Brinson and taught for many years in Decatur County Schools and also at Oaks Academy.

Survivors include her daughters, Annette Shoemaker and her husband, John, Harriett Alday and her husband, Lonnie, and Claire Harrell and her husband, Stanley, all of Brinson; her grandchildren, Sherri Shoemaker Moody and her husband, Bobby, of Macon, Ga., Steven Hicks and his wife, Lori, of Panama City Beach, Fla., Mandie Alday Brock and her husband, Mills, of Bainbridge,  and Adam Alday and his wife, April, of Sellersburg, Indiana; her great-grandchildren, Whitney Hicks, Olivia Bender, Thomas Brock, Evan Brock, Ryker Alday, and Lily Alday; and her sister-in-law, Gussie Daniel of Edison, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry L. King, four sisters, and one brother.
