Dr. James P. Humphrey, 61, of Cairo, passed away Friday, February 6, 2015 at Grady General Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Poppell and Rev. Jim Weaver officiating. Interment will be at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Charles Harrell, Bobby Harrell, James Brock, Ron Kinsey, Daniel Humphrey, Tru Dickson, and Preston Bowen serving as active pallbearers.

Mr. Humphrey was born September 11, 1953 in Bainbridge, the son of J. T. Humphrey and Juanita Boyett Humphrey. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1971, and received his BS in Nursing from Valdosta State University, his MS in Nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and his PhD in Leadership and Administration from Georgia State University. He was a retired professor for Valdosta State University College of Nursing. He was a member of Climax Advent Christian Church where he served as pianist, Sigma Theta Tau, Georgia Nurses Association, and Grady General Hospital Service League. He volunteered with the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Syrupmaker Band Boosters, and was a volunteer health care provider for the Syrupmaker Band.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Jean T. Humphrey of Cairo; his son, Jared Boyett Humphrey and his fiancee, Haley Canady, of Climax; his aunt, Florence Boyett Gillespie of Attapulgus, GA; and many cousins.
