Martha Ann Jester, 99, went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 17, 2015. She was born in Quitman, Ga. on November 20, 1915 to Glover and Ruth Burney.
Martha Ann attended two years of college at Georgia State College for Women before she met and married Gordon Jester from Bainbridge. She lived in Bainbridge for fifty-eight years before moving to Austin, Texas at the age of seventy-eight, to be with family. She was a highly respected, successful businesswoman in Bainbridge, and the original owner of the Betty-Ann Shop. Her love of gardening and flowers made her many friends in both Bainbridge and Austin. Her green thumb was undeniably a gift.
Martha Ann is survived by her daughter, Betty Ruth Tannler of Daphne, Ala., and her daughter Ann Robinette Gustafson of Austin; her grandchildren, Gary and his wife Perri Robinette, Patrick and his wife, Polly Robinette, Kimberly Robinette; ten great-grandchildren, Hillary, Jayme, Daniel, Katherine, Charnelle, Dillon, Haylee, Abigail, Morgan, Kylee; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Martha Ann will be missed tremendously by her family and by her friends in the home where she lived for the past three years, Stonebridge Healthcare Center. Our special gratitude and love to the nurses, caregivers and staff who took such wonderful care of her.
As per her request, her body was donated to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Her remains will be brought to Bainbridge to rest beside Gordon Jester at a later date.
