Bainbridge High School Lady Cat sophomore swimmer Tara Stevens, daughter of Eddie and Teresa Stevens, will be competing in two events Friday and Saturday at the State Class AAAA Meet at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
Stevens, who swims with coach Gretta Conner’s Lady Cats swim team, qualified for state in five events, but swimmers are only allowed to compete in two at the state meet. Stevens will be competing in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley at the Class AAAA preliminaries Friday. If she finishes in the top 20, then she will compete in the final round on Saturday.
At the Region 1-AAAA Meet in Albany, Steven’s 100-yard backstroke time was 1:00.47 and her 200-yard individual medley time was 2:15.68. Also at the region meet she competed in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:02.81, the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.68 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.33.
Stevens trains for 20 hours each week with Area Tallahassee Aquatic Club coach Terry Maul. She trains with him Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., then returns to Bainbridge High School to begin her day of classes.
Lady Cats swim coach Conner describes Stevens as a very dedicated young lady both in the pool and in the classroom.
