For many, it’s the most dreaded date of the year.
Last Saturday, Dec. 20, property taxes were due for everyone across the state, and Decatur County was no exception. Whether you own a house in a Bainbridge neighborhood or more than 100 acres of farmland out in the county, your taxes are due the same time as everyone else.
A lot of factors combine to determine the value of a piece of property and the taxes due from it. But who are the biggest taxpayers in Decatur County?
BASF Catalysts, LLC is the top taxpayer, with $866,971.40 due this year. Their appraised property value is $78,123,896, with their assessed value at $31,249,558.
The second biggest payer is the Georgia Power Company with $615,863.34 due. Their total appraised value is $51,745,783, with their assessed value coming in at $20,698,313.
Third on the list is Shaw Industries with a total of $455,695.79 due this year. Their property’s appraised value is $41,071,154 with the assessed value sitting at $16,428,461.
Coming in at the fourth biggest taxpayer is Morgan Stanley Capital, the owners of the land on Shotwell Street across from the Hwy. 84 exit that is home to an industrial plant. Their total taxes due are $397,647 with an appraised property value of $29,905,542 and an assessed value of $11,962,216.
C.S.X Transportation is the fifth biggest taxpayer, with $188,781.94 due this year. Their properties’ appraised value comes in at $14,536,538 with an assessed value of $5,814615.20.
Sanfillipo is the sixth highest taxpayer in Decatur County with $187,569.08 in taxes due this year. Their appraised property value sits at $16,901,193 with an assessed value of $6,760,478.
Engelhard Cooperation is No. 7 on the list, with $179,310.72 taxes due this year. They have an appraised property value of $16,155,619 and an assessed property value sitting at $6,462,247.60.
Coming in at the eighth biggest taxpayer is Danimer Scientific, LLC, which had $157,772.87 due this year. It has an appraised property value of $14,356,022 and an assessed value of $5,742,408.80
Meredian Bioplastics, Inc., sits as the ninth biggest taxpayer, with $153,716.95 due this year. They have an appraised property value of $13,848,411 and an assessed value of $5,539,364.4.
Finally, sitting in the tenth spot is Scott H. Lee, Jr. of Walmart, Inc., who had $123,496.66 due in taxes this year, $9,264,565 in appraised property value and $3,705,826 in assessed value.
These 10 taxpayers combined for $3,326,775.93 in property taxes in 2014. Other factors were included in determining these taxpayers’ final due amounts, including various exemptions and credits.
