The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team defeated the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets 76-30 Tuesday.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a quick 5-0 first-quarter lead on early baskets by Patra Parris.
Parris hit a free throw at the 7:45 mark to break the scoring ice and followed it up with a short jumper and a lay up. Alexandria Carter made a jumper from the left side at the 4:22 mark to make it 8-2. Rakia Hughes followed with a lay up and two free throws to make it 12-2. They led 25-8 at the end of the first quarter.
They went up by 24 to 38-14 when Hughes hit two free throws with 2:52 left in the second quarter. They were out front 44-16 at half time and 63-24 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Cats went on a 7-0 scoring run to begin the fourth quarter to build their lead to 70-24. The run opened with a free throw by Parris, continued with a lay up by Carter and a jumper by Beonka Madge and concluded with a jumper by Tameria Levens.
Carter led the Lady Cats in scoring with 22 points. Also in double figures were Nadia Marshall with 13 and Parris with 12.
Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his team played well and hard against the Lady Yellow Jackets.
“Thomas County Central made it to the elite eight round of the state tournament two years ago, but they lost those players to graduation,” he said. “They are in a rebuilding period right now. We dominated the game from the start, and that is what we needed to do.”
The Lady Cats returned to action Friday when they hosted the Cairo High School Syrupmaids. They travel to Thomasville today to take on the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs.
