Bearcats beat Yellow Jackets at home 69-60

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats basketball team defeated the visiting Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets 69-60 Tuesday.
DeVonte Jones hit a driving basket with 6:02 left in the first quarter to give the Bearcats an early 7-4 lead. He followed that up with a three-point jumper at the 4:48 mark to make it 10-4. The Bearcats led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Tyree Crump, who led the Bearcats in scoring with 19 points, hit a three-point jumper at the 4:06 mark of the second quarter to gave the Bearcats a 24-14 lead. They were out front 29-21 at halftime. Crump was called for two technical fouls and had to sit out the next two games.
The Bearcats met the Cairo High School Syrupmakers here Friday night and will take on the Thomasville High School Bulldogs tonight on the road.
They entered the fourth quarter against the Yellow Jackets with a 52-38 lead. Two free throws by Trevon Shaw less than a minute into the final quarter put the Bearcats up 54-38. Shaw sealed the victory with a dunk at the buzzer.
Bearcats coach Rickey McCullough said he thought his team met the challenge of a strong Central team well.
We handled and shot the ball well and also played good defense,” he said. “It was a good win.
Behind Crump in the Bearcats scoring column were Shaw with 14, Myles Thomas and Malik Middleton with 11 apiece and DeVonte Jones with eight.
