Lady Cats continue undefeated in weekend match ups

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team improved their record to 3-0 over the weekend with back-to-back victories.

On Friday they defeated the Seminole County Lady Indians 69-44 and on Saturday they defeated the Dougherty High School Lady Trojans 79-51.

Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran was much more pleased with his team’s Saturday nigh effort against Dougherty than he was with their Friday night effort against Seminole County.

“We made to many mistakes Friday night,” he said. “We turned the ball over in situations where we were in good shooting range. We have got to take better care of the basketball. Saturday night we were much more focused against Dougherty. We are playing with seniors who have been in our program for four years and they need to be focused every night.”

The Lady Cats grabbed a quick 14-2 lead over the Lady Indians Friday. Patra Parris, who led the Lady Cats in scoring Friday night with 18 points, put them up by double digits when she hit a pair of baskets midway through the first quarter. First she hit a layup off the left glass with 5:13 remaining to increase the lead to 8-2 then she hit a short jumper from the left side make it 12-2.

After Dejoh Martin hit a layup off the right glass to cut the Lady Cats advantage to 12-4, the Lady Cats scored the next eight points to go up 20-4.

After Alexis Russ hit two free throws to make it 14-4, Alexandria Carter hit a driving layup off the right glass to make it 16-4.

The advantage went to 18-4 when Parris hit a layup off the right glass at the 2:21 mark Carter made it 20-4 with a jumper at the 1:45 mark.

The Lady Cats led 24-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Carter’s jumper from the right side with 1:37 showing on the second quarter clock put the Lady Cat sup by 20, 40-20. They led 40-26 at halftime and 47-35 after three quarters. They built their lead to 18, at 60-42, when Tameria Levens, who finished with 11 points, hit a turn-around jumper in the lane at the 3:49 Mark.

Saturday night against Dougherty’s Lady Trojans, the Lady Cats were led again by Parris with 16 points. Also in double figures were Carter with 15 points and Asia Gordon with 14. Zakia Davis led the Lady Indians with 20 points.

The Lady Cats took a big early lead Saturday night against the Lady Trojans. They went out front 22-8 when Levens hit back-to-back jumpers at the 2:50 and 1:46 marks. They were out front 26-12 entering the second quarter.

Carter increased the advantage to 28-12 when she opened the second quarter with a driving jumper in the lane at the 7:39 mark. They went up by 20, 39-19, when Carter hit a jumper from the left side with 4:06 showing on the second quarter clock. They were out front 52-29 at halftime.

The Lady Cats went up by 31, 71-40, when Carter hit a jumper at the 4:27 mark of the fourth quarter.

Three Lady Cats finished in double figures against the Lady Trojans. Parris led the way with 16 points, Carter put in 15 and Gordon scored 14.

Although Dougherty is a Region 1-AAAA opponent, the Saturday win does not count in the Region 1-AAAA standings. Each Region 1-AAAA opponent is playing each other Region 1-AAAA opponent twice, but only the second meeting will count in the Region 1-AAAA standings. The Lady Cats and Lady Trojans will meet again on Friday, January 23 in Albany.

The Lady Cats returned to action Tuesday when they took on the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers in Moultrie. They will host the Region 1-AAAA Westover High School Lady Patriots Friday and host the Region 1-AAAA Worth County High School Lady Rams Saturday.
