Several graves at Salem Independent Baptist Church on Salem Church Road were vandalized last weekend.

According to information gathered by Decatur County Sheriff’s Office Captain Gale Bowyer, a vehicle did the damage. Parts and pieces were left behind and identified as belonging to a Ford F-150 2005 or 2006

Bowyer said the entire driver’s side of the truck should be visibly damaged, based on evidence. The vehicle’s color is unknown.

A trail of fluid, most likely transmission fluid, was found on the ground from Salem Church Road to about five miles north of Old Whigham Road, according to Bowyer.

“It’s a sad day when we have to work something like this and that people have no respect for the dead or a church,” Bowyer said.
