Early registration is currently open for Bainbridge Leisure Service’s Jingle Bell Jog 5K.
The 5K and one-mile fun run will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Earle May Boat Basin.
Adult pre-registration is $20 until Dec. 4. Day-of registration is $30. Pre-registration for the one-mile fun run for children 13 and under is $12, and day-of registration is $15. Only those who pre-register are guaranteed a T-shirt.
All proceeds will benefit Bainbridge Public Safety’s holiday “Shop with a Cop” program, which was founded in 2012.
“It helps raise money for families in need. They pick two or three different families and go shopping for Christmas. It’s a great way to give back to the community,” said Valerie Faircloth, Bainbridge Leisure Services assistant program director.
BPS partners with Decatur County schools, Division of Family and Children Services and Decatur County Family Connections to find families that need a little extra help during the holiday season. Public Safety officers are paired with chosen families to have a day of fun while Christmas shopping for family members. The children purchase gifts while the parents go grocery shopping. The families then enjoy a nice lunch together and return to Public Safety to wrap their gifts.
The race will be along the lighted nature trails at the Boat Basin. Male and female overall winners for all races will receive an award, as will first, second and third place for each age group.
Race check-in is at 4 p.m. The fun run begins at 5 p.m., and the 5K begins at 5:15 p.m. Registration forms and information can be found at http://www.bainbridgecity.com/egov/docs/1416596211564.htm. Valerie Faircloth with Leisure Services can be reached at 248-2010 to answer any questions.
