Seventh grade Bearcats take down Whigham, Lady Cats fall short

The Bainbridge High School seventh grade Lady Cats and Bearcats split a pair of games with the Whigham Middle School seventh grade Lady Indians and Indians Monday in Whigham.
In the opener, coach Lisa Taylor’s Lady Cats lost 18-11 to the Lady Indians and in the nightcap the coach Patrick Clark’s Bearcats defeated the Indians 45-37.
The Lady Cats were led by forward Domenique Linsy with four points.
The Bearcats improved their record to 2-1 with the win over the Indians. They were led by Dewayne Kyles with 13 points. Artez Moore was also in double figures with 10 points. Both coaches said they thought their teams played hard the entire game.
“We really played good defense and hustled,” Taylor said. “We were down 10-2 at one point and came back to cut down the lead.”
Clark also expressed satisfaction with the Bearcats’ level of effort.
“I am really proud of our basketball players,” Bearcats coach Clark said. “Team chemistry is bonding and we are starting to excel in every facet of the game. We must continue to reduce team and individual foul trouble along with improving free throw shooting. I am confident in my players and t he y will clean up these mistakes as the season continues.”
Behind Kyles and Moore in the Bearcats scoring column Monday were Jeremiah McClain with seven points, Timothy Tarver with six, Anthony Florence with four, Cincere Johnson with three, and Jordan Johnson with two.
The teams will return to action today when they host Cairo’s Washington Middle School seventh grade Lady Tigers and Tigers at the Decatur county Memorial Coliseum. They girls game will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
