Farewell to Bearcat football, marching band season

This football season has been an exceptional one for the Bearcats. I have seen a lot of growth in the team from the first game to the last game in the first round of playoffs. Yes, there were bad calls made from referees that at times I thought cost us the game, however, the spirit of the Bearcats never wavered. The Bearcats held their heads high and continued to play their hearts out. They never gave up showing determination in every game they played.

You are not just attending a football game, you are also there supporting these kids. As a mother of a Bearcat Marching Band student, I don’t miss an opportunity to see my child perform. There is something special about the moment you see your child step onto Centennial Field.

In Bainbridge we couldn’t ask for better band directors and coaches. They are teaching our kids lifelong skills of sportsmanship, team work, hard work, dedication, and also how to have fun. I am also thankful for the many law enforcement officers who are always present at the games; supporting and protecting our kids.  I found it to be amazing how these officers lead and follow the buses; even stopping traffic to get through red lights. I rest easy knowing the safety of my kid is in the forefront of these officers’ minds. Also, I can’t forget the numerous dedicated bus drivers that never get the appreciation they deserve. As a parent, we might not know your name, but we appreciate all you do to keep our kids safe.

To the parents I encourage you to be present in your kids’ lives. The high school years for a student seem to go by so quickly, so don’t miss any opportunity to be a part of your kids’ lives and cherish those special memories.

As a BHS Alumni of the Class of 1988, I still look back on those Friday nights at Centennial Field cheering the Bearcats on. It is during those times and these special teachers and coaches efforts that help shape who you are and what kind of adult you will become. In closing thanks again to the BHS Bearcats and Marching Band for a wonderful football season and for adding more memories to my treasure chest that I keep in my heart forever.
