Coach Dot Pierce’s Bainbridge Middle School eighth grade Lady Cats basketball team bowed to the Thomas County Central Middle School eighth grade Lady Yellow Jackets 43-19 Tuesday on the road and bounced back to down the Early County Middle School Lady Bobcats 26-24 Thursday at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
The split improved the Lady Cats record to 3-1.
The Lady Cats game with the Lady Yellow Jackets was close early. The Lady Cats were down by just six at halftime. The Lady Cats were led by forward Mycha Harris with 9 points.
Rounding out the Lady Cats scoring column against Central were guard Zychcheria Russ with six points and forward Takemia Crankfield and center Mattie Register with two points apiece.
“We played very well in the first half against Central,” coach Pierce said. “We got a little frustrated in the second half and that hurt us.”
Pierce said, “We played much better Thursday against Early County. The only one who hurt us was their center Talich Wesley, who had 17 points. We concentrated on her and made sure the other players did not get good looks at the basket.”
Rounding out the Lady Bobcats scoring chart behind Wesley were Mava Willims with five points and Jalin Davis with 2.
