Betty Athalone Griner Chewning, 88, of Parker, Fla., passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Covenant Care. Betty was born in Brinson, Ga., and lived in Bay County since 1967. She was a homemaker, and was a beach lover who enjoyed collecting shells and making beautiful crafts with them. Betty was a member of the Shaddai Daughters of the Nile. She was preceded in death by a son, Alan Russell Chewning.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Carl G. Chewning of Panama City; two children, Carl G. Chewning, Jr. and Diana Parker, both of Panama City; a sister, Grace Hatton (Joseph) of Panama City; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Brinson, near Bainbridge, at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Friday, from 5 until 7:00 p.m.
