Coach Amy Thomas’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team dropped two first-round games  to Perry High School Wednesday in  Perry  to bow out of the first round of the State Class AAAA Tournament.

The Lady Cats, who finished 15-9 overall and 9-4 at fourth place in Region 1-AAAA, dropped the first game of the double-elimination tournament 9-3 and bowed out 12-3 in the nightcap.

The Lady Cats cut a 4-0  first game deficit to 4-2 when they rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth. An RBI single by first baseman Tori Sprenkle and an RBI single  by Haley Thompson accounted for the runs.

In the second game, a 12-3 elimination loss to Perry, they were led by third baseman Morgan Cannon, who had a sacrifice fly in the seventh to score the Lady Cats’ third and final run.

“Perry was a very good team, and I look for them to advance even further in the state tournament, and I wish them well the rest of the tournament. But our team also played well in the tournament and throughout the season,” said coach Thomas.

“Catcher Brook Bates had an outstanding season. Whenever she was pitching, it was fairly certain to be a close. All of her pitches had a lot of movement and kept opposing batters off side,” Thomas said. “Maegan Harrison had three critical hits in the second game.”

“Everyone played hard, and our positive achievements were a result of a true team effort,” Thomas said. “I also want to thank coach Dennis Cato for his great contributions this season. He loves softball and loves working with the players. He is a real asset to our program.”
