JV Bearcats fall to Yellow Jackets 33-16 Thursday

Alfonso Spencer ran for three touchdowns and threw for a third Thursday leading the Thomas County Central High School junior varsity Yellow Jackets to a 33-16 victory over the Bainbridge High School junior varsity Bearcats at Centennial Field.
Spencer ran around the left side for 38 yards and a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, and Quantavious Cooksey kicked the extra point to give the Yellow Jackets an early 7-0 lead. The score came with 7:01 remaining in the first quarter.
The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 14-0 when Marquez Dodson ran three yards for a touchdown with 5:37 left in the first quarter and Cooksey kicked the extra point to put the Yellow Jackets up 14-0.
Spencer threw a 10-yard, second quarter touchdown pass to Cooksey to put the Yellow Jackets up 20-0. Spencer tried to run in for the two-point conversion, but the Bearcats defense came up to stop him short.
Early in the second quarter Spencer ran 63 yards off the left side for a touchdown to put the Yellow Jackets ahead 26-0. The Bearcats again stopped the visitors short as they tried to run in for the two-point conversion.
Quarterback Brent McLaughin sneaked off the left side for a yard and a touchdown with just 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter, then ran in for the two-point conversion to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 26-6 at halftime.
The Bearcats had a more successful second half as Markel Broadnax scored a touchdown, lessening the Yellow Jacket lead to 26-13. The Yellow Jackets proved too much and scored another touchdown in the second half, while the Bearcats managed a field goal.
