Quarterback Sam Boutwell scored three touchdowns Tuesday leading Coach Blake Carruthers’ Bainbridge Middle School Bearcats football team to a 22-0 victory over the Thomas County Central Middle School seventh grade Yellow Jackets at Centennial Field.
The Bearcats jumped out front 6-0 when Boutwell ran 25 yards for a touchdown with 6:54 left in the first quarter. Tailback Ronnie Vickers tried to run in for the two point conversion and was stopped just short.
With just 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter Boutwell broke loose for 53 yards and a touchdown, His third touchdown came on a 25-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Coach Carruthers said he was proud of his team’s performance against a good Thomas County Central team.
“We played hard on both sides of the ball,” Carruthers said. “We locked well, ran well and tackled well. That is a winning formula. We also had a chance to play a lot of people and that is always good.
“Sam Boutwell has had an outstanding season running and throwing the football. He runs hard and is very elusive and hard to bring down. Our offensive line also came up with some key blocks on his touchdown runs. Tailback Ronnie Vickers also runs hard and well every time he gets the ball.”
