Bainbridge State College Student Government Association officers have developed a scholarship based on leadership, which they have raised funds for its endowment with the help of local businesses.
The SGA Scholarship is awarded once a year to a student who exemplifies leadership, an active campus life and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
Alea Simmons, SGA President, said, “This scholarship is very encouraging to us. We not only want to represent the students, but give back to them. We see how much this scholarship will help with books, etc., and we want to continue doing what we are doing.”
The scholarship is sponsored through Zaxby’s and Beef O’ Brady’s who have set aside specific days to contribute a percentage of the profits to the scholarship fund. On the fourth Tuesday of each month, the students have a “Zaxby’s Night,” where they go to the local Zaxby’s and encourage people to participate and help the students.
On the third Monday of each month, the students have a “Beef O’Brady’s Night,” where the community is encouraged to eat at Beef O’Brady’s to help the students raise funds for the scholarship.
Simmons added, “The SGA Scholarship is a great opportunity for the students. Everyone is encouraged to apply.”
Students can apply for the SGA Scholarship by visiting www.bainbridge.edu, clicking the Financial Aid tab and filling out the General Scholarship Application.
