Coach Amy Thomas’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team shut out the Miller County High School Lady Pirates 9-0 Monday in Colquitt.

The Lady Cats sealed the victory with four-run rallies in the third and fifth innings. Shortstop Maegan Harrison doubled in centerfielder Haley Thompson and second baseman Taylor Jackson in the third.

Right-hander Brooke Bates was in command all the way. She allowed just one hit and did not walk a batter while striking out seven through five innings.

Third baseman Tykira Adams singled home a run in the fifth. The Lady Cats took a 9-3 record into Tuesday’s Region 1-AAAA home game against the Albany High School Lady Indians. They will travel to Adel Thursday for a Region 1-AAAA game with the Cook County High School Lady Hornets.

“It was very important to jump out to an early lead over Miller County,” Thomas said. “Miller County was not able to get anything going as long as Brooke Bates was pitching.”

Thomas said the team needed to keep its momentum going for a string of upcoming region matchups.

“The important thing is to be ready for our next two games, which are all Region 1-AAAA games,” Thomas said. “The focus of the players has been really good throughout the season.”
