Seventh grade Bearcats trample Bulldogs 20-14 in Thomasville

Coach Blake Carruthers Bainbridge Middle School seventh grade Bearcats football team improved their season record to 2-0 with a 20-14 Wednesday victory over Thomasville’s McIntyre Park Middle School seventh grade Bulldogs at Thomasville High School’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Bulldogs took a 6-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the first quarter when their quarterback sneaked one yard behind left guard for a touchdown with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. He tried to run in for the 2-point conversion but linebacker Carsen Love and defensive end Gendall came up to stop him short.
The Bearcats pulled even 6-6 when quarterback Sam Boutwell ran 23 yards for a touchdownwith 6:23 left in the third quarter to culminate a six play 63 yard drive. The 2-point conversion attempt failed.
The Bearcats went ahead to stay 14-6 when Sam Boutwell, who lined up at tailback, ran a sweep around the right side and ran 47 yards for a touchdown with 6:11 remaining in the fourth to culminate a seven play 69 yard . Boutwell then ran off left guard for the 2-point conversion.
The Bulldogs pulled even 14-14 with 4:30 left in the fourth quarterback ran 57 yardds for a touchdown to culminate a three play 66 yard drive The Bulldogs fullback ran off right guard for the two point conversion.
The Bearcats went ahead to stay 20-14 w ith 2:13 left in the fourth quarter quarterback Boutwell ran 38 yards for a touchdown with 2:13 left in the fourth quarter to culminate an eight play 59 yard drive. Dewayne Kyles tried to run up the middle for the 2-point conversion but was stopped short.
Coach Carruthers said he was very proud of his team’s hard play and hustle against the Bulldogs.
“We made some mistakes but we kept playing hard,” he said. “It was an ugly win, but that is much better than an ugly loss.”
