Bainbridge softball sweeps past Seminole County, wrecks Americas-Sumter at home

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats junior varsity and varsity softball teams swept a double header over the Seminole County High School junior varsity and varsity Lady Indians Tuesday and the varsity Lady Cats shut out the Americus-Sumter County High School Lady Panthers 15-0 in a three-inning Region 1-AAAA game Thursday. 

All games were played at the Lady Cats Diamond.

In the preliminary game, the junior varsity Lady Cats defeated the junior varsity Lady Indians 11-6. In the second game, the varsity Lady Cats edged the varsity Lady Indians 4-3.

Riley Fletcher went one for three and stole three bases and Jasmine Bell went two for two and drove in two runs to help lead the junior varsity Lady Cats get by the junior varsity Lady Indians.

The Lady Cats varsity team, which is 7-2 overall and 4-0 in Region AAAA play, scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Pitcher Brooke Bates came around to score after being hit by a pitch. She moved up on a single by Morgan Cannon and was driven in by Tykira Adams. Cannon also drove in the Lady Cats first run with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth.

During her seven innings of work on the mound, Bates allowed just two hits, no earned runs, walked just one and struck out six.

In Thursday’s Region 1-AAAA 15-0 shutout victory over the visiting Americus-Sumter  Lady Panthers, the Lady Cats put the game away with 10 runs in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Tori Sprenkle had two hits and run batted in.

Bates had two hits and three runs batted in. Shortstop Maegan Harrison had two hits and three runs batted in.

The varsity Lady Cats will return to Region 1-AAAA action Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets at the Lady Cats Diamond.
