Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars soccer team defeated the Dale County Christian Academy Lady Crusaders 3-0 Friday in Ozark, Alabama.

Earlier, Harrell had an opportunity to evaluate his team during the Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16 Dominion Christian School Endless Summer Preseason Tournament in Marietta.

Teams competing in the Marietta tournament along with Dominion and Grace were Augusta Preparatory School, Young Americans Christian School in Conyers and Griffin Christian High School.

“At the Marietta tournament, we started several different lineups and tweaked both our offense and defense,” coach Harrell said. “We have 13 players this year and that is the largest squad we have ever had, however only six are returning varsity players.

Harrell said his team’s athletic ability would be a huge contributing factor to the season.

“Even though our volleyball experience is limited, we are very athletic,” he said. “We have to channel that athleticism into volleyball.”

Harrell said junior Kelsey Harrell had a good tournament leading the team in kills and serving. He also pointed out that junior Lindsey Duke transitioned to the setter position and performed well.

In their Friday victory over Dale County, the Lady Crusaders won the first set 25-15, won the second set 25-11 and won the third set 27-13. Leading the way were Kelsey Harrell with seven kills, Sarah Castoro with nine kills and Perra Harrell with 10 ace serves.

Hannah Holden had a 100 percent serve percentage and Perra Harrell had a 94 percent serve percentage. Duke had 20 assists.

“We played really well against Dale County,” coach Harrell said. “Our servers did an outstanding job.”
