Jile LaVaughn Salter, Jr., 57 of Climax, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Grady General Hospital.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Jackie Duke, Ralph Daughtry, Mickey Alley, Tracy Kelly, Daniel Phillips, John Wesley Lambert, Jr., and Jacob Hawthorne serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, at Ivey Funeral Home prior to the funeral service. Online visitors may sign the guest register at

Mr. Salter was born Dec. 18, 1956 in Cairo, the son of Jile LaVaughn Salter, Sr. and Peggy Ann Watkins Salter. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church and worked for Monrovia for 24 years.

Jile was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Melissa A. Salter of Climax; his children, April Ann Salter of Climax, Jile LaVaughn Salter III and his wife, Terry, of Climax, Hannah Marie Salter of Climax, and Katie Mae Salter of Climax; his siblings, Janet Meredith and her husband, Garry, of Climax; Larry Salter and his wife, Nickie, of Climax; and Mike Salter of Mitchell County, Ga.; his grandchildren, Daniel Phillips, Jacob Hawthorne, Angel Phillips, Makayla Phillips, Haley Bug Salter, and Jr. Salter as well as several nieces and nephews.
