The Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA will host the Dual Between the States Florida versus Georgia Swim Meet this Saturday at the YMCA pool.
It will pit the YMCA Barracudas swim team against the Marianna Florida Marlins swim team.
Barracudas coaches Becki Miller and Jennifer Clements say they and their swimmers are excited about having a home meet while at the same time renewing an old friendly rivalry.
“It will be great to have a home meet because our swimmers, who have had a great season, will be able to show what a strong competitive spirit they have” coach Miller said.
“I competed for the city of Bainbridge swim team when I was growing up and we had a friendly rivalry with Marianna,” added coach Clements, who is YMCA aquatics coordinator.
“Marianna used to come to our annual Inland Port Invitational Meet at the city pool and they were always very competitive. Our swimmers are very excited about the opportunity they will have to swim in front of their parents and fans at home. They are working very hard to get ready for the meet.”
Saturday’s activities will get underway with team warm-ups from 8 a.m. until 9 a.m. Competition will be under Georgia Parks and Recreation Association, rules, and eligibility will be determined by the swimmers’ ages.
All events will be timed finals and timing will be done by hand stopwatches. There was a $20 flat rate charge and it included entry fees, event fees, relays and heat sheets. Entry fee deadline was Monday, July 21. There will be no admission fee for spectators.
Medals will be given to first and second place finishers in each event. Every swimmer will receive a participation medal and the team that has the most overall total points will retain the meet trophy.
