Dr. Gene Tuten, 78, of Bainbridge Georgia, passed away July 3rd, 2014 at Bainbridge Healthcare. The memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Fox officiating.

Dr. Tuten was born Jan. 25, 1936 in Blackshear, Ga. He was a graduate of Blackshear High School, class of 1954. Shortly after high school, he attended and graduated from Palmer University in Davenport, Iowa as a Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Gene Tuten began his practice in Waycross, Ga. and in 1987 moved his practice and family to Bainbridge. He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of Morningside Baptist Church, and dearly loved spending time with his family and friends. Many Bainbridge residents also knew him by his grandchildren’s nickname, “Papa Toot”. Gene finally retired after 52 years of helping others in 2008.
Survivors include his wife Sheryl Tuten of Bainbridge; his children, Gina Phillips and her husband, Don, of Blakely, Ga., Dr. Chad Tuten and his wife, Tara, of Camilla, Ga., and Scott Tuten and his wife, Daphne, of Bainbridge; his siblings, Gerry Moody of Tifton, Ga., Fran Wood of Blackshear, Doris Stuckey of Brunswick, Ga., and Waunell Jordan of Waycross; and his eight grandchildren, Addie Phillips, Ashlee Phillips, Meg Phillips, Banks Tuten, Saylor Tuten, Emily Grace Tuten, Jack Tuten and William Tuten.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
