Barracudas train for District 3 meet

The Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA Barracuda Swim Team began preparing this week for their upcoming competition in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 3 Meet in Tifton on Saturday, July 12.
The team is practicing under head coach Becki Miller and YMCA aquatics coordinator and coach Jennifer Clements.
The team practices each Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the city of Bainbridge Potter Street Pool. The State Meet will be Friday and Saturday July 18-19 in Tifton.
Coach Miller and coach Clements say the team members are really working hard to get ready for the District Meet.
“With their intense workouts we know our swimmers will drop times,” coach Miller said. “All of the swimmers are really dedicated,” added coach Clements. “We know that they will surprise us abs come through.”
Swimmers who will be competing at the District Meet include Jewel Anvar, who will be competing in the 7-and-8-year-olds girls 25-yard butterfly, Carissa White, who will be competing in the 7-and–8year-old girls 25-yard butterfly and 50-yard freestyle, and Christie Whitaker, who will be competing in the 9-and-10-year old girls 25-yard backstroke and 50-yard freestyle.
District Meet swimmers will also include Alex Shanks, who will be competing in the 9-and-10-year-old boys 25-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, Masey Tabb, who will be competing in the 11-and-12 year-old girls 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay, and Brooklyn Willis, who will be competing in the girls 12-year-old-and-under girls 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.
Sandy Baker will be competing in the 12-year-old-and-under girls 50-yard butterfly, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Emily Sullivan will be competing in the 12-year-old-and-under girls 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard individual medley, 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.
Thad Whitaker will be competing in the 13-and-14-year old boys 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley. Ali Bennett will be competing in the 7-and-8-year-old girls 25-yard back freestyle and 25-yard backstroke. Dax Willis will be competing in the 9-and-10-year-old boys 25-yard breaststroke and 100-yard individual medley and Paige Overman will be competing in the 9-and-10-year-old girls 25-yard breaststroke.
The Barracudas will host a home meet against Marianna, Florida, Saturday, July 26 at the YMCA pool.
