Rev. Billy Joe Butler, 66, of Vada died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
Funeral services were, Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Dr. Johnny Roberts, Rev. Leonard Hill and Rev. Junior Snipes officiated.
Serving as pallbearers were Tracy Posey, Donnie Foister, Larry Posey, Brantley Harrell, Gary Harrell, Dalton Matthews, Dudley Standley and Glenn Phelps.
Born Sept. 9, 1947 in Pelham, Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Sye and Evelyn Glenn Butler. Rev. Butler served in the US Army in Vietnam 1967-1970. On July 4, 1970, he married the love of his life, Linda Kay Hays. He was a graduate of Pelham High School, Graceville Bible
Institute and obtained his master’s degree from Jacksonville Bible College. Mr. Butler was a member of the American Legion Post #157 in Donalsonville. Since 1980 he has been a full time minister in Georgia and Alabama. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and preaching God’s word.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kay Butler of Vada; son, Glenn Butler of Vada; two daughters, Michelle (Dusty) Matthews of Midland, Texas and Renee Daniels of Tallassee, Alabama; brothers, Julian (Ruth) Pritchard of Pacific, Missouri, Tommy (Brenda) Butler of Pelham, Carey (Teresa) Butler of Pelham and Robin (Rennie) Butler of Moultrie; sisters, Kay Davis of Pelham and Judy (Paul) Richardson of Baconton.; grandchildren, Morgan Matthews, Meghan Matthews, Dalton Matthews and Destiny Daniels.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 23 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Carport Fund or the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 5008 Vada Road, Climax, Ga. 39834.
