Mary Durham King

Mary Durham King, 92, of Brinson, Ga., passed away Friday, June 13, 2014 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Brinson Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Crapps and Rev. Ellis Hardwick officiating. Interment was at Brinson Cemetery with Stanley Harrell, Johnny Shoemaker, Lonnie Alday, Glenn Earnest, Jack Griffin, Robert Cohen, Alan Sims, and Tommy Bell serving as active pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brinson Cemetery Fund, c/o Claire Harrell, P.O. Box 693 Brinson, GA 39825.
Mrs. King was born May 21, 1922 in Brinson, the daughter of Hardy Benjamin Durham and Susie Mae Luckey Durham. She was valedictorian of Brinson High School and retired after many years working at C&S Bank in Bainbridge. Mrs. King was a member of Brinson Baptist Church. She joined the church as a teenager and later served as church secretary and treasurer.
She loved to cook, read books, puzzles and was an avid indoor gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry King, Sr.; her siblings, Robert Durham, Sue Calhoun, Lamar Mock, Willie Andrews, Helen Rentz, Pauline Barnwell, Jessie Durham, Mary Cummins, and Dewey Durham.
Survivors include her sons, James “Jimmy” King, Jr and his wife, Janelle, of Brinson, and Jason King and his wife, Mag, of Bainbridge; her sister, Lou Ellen Phillips of Bainbridge; her grandchildren, Amy King, Lee Ann
Porter, Alan King, Melinda K. Griffin, and Jay King and his wife Christin; her great-grandchildren, Emily, Benjamin, Zack, Luke, Brinson, and Bowen; and her great-great-grandson, Eli.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
