Fitness director Kathy Bell and membership director Crystal Hines of the Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA briefed the Bainbridge Lions Club Wednesday on the many health related activities available at their facility.
Bell talked about the silver sneakers program, which is very popular among active older adults.
“Silver sneakers participants exercise in our spinning classes and our pool and do a number of other exercises to keep their body active and healthy,” Bell said. “In addition to their health related benefits they enjoy just getting together and visiting with each other.
“My background before coming to the YMCA was as an elementary and high school physical education teacher. I really enjoy helping people stay healthy at the YMCA.”
Membership director Hines told the Lions that the YMCA provides physical activities in a Christian atmosphere for people of all ages.
“The YMCA is much more than just a gym and a pool,” she said. “Everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from the healthy activities we offer.
“We also have many summer camps for our youngsters. They can fish in our well-stocked pond and play basketball and soccer. Our July 14 through July 17 10-to-17-year-old basketball camp will be instructed by Bainbridge High School Bearcats head basketball coach Rickey McCullough. A YMCA is an asset to any city and county.
“When a person or business is thinking about moving to Bainbridge they check out the churches, the schools and many other things. A good YMCA like ours is also a major thing that they consider.
“The YMCA is a great place for families. There are healthy programs for parents and youngsters.”
