SGTMAJ Auston “Sarge” Connell, Ret., 91, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley and Rev. Earl Barron officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors. David Helms, Chris Logue, Randel Logue, Bo Logue, Jimmy Collins, and Dennis Logue will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tommy Wheeler Sunday School Class.

Mr. Connell was born June 26, 1922 in Nashville, GA, the son of John Luther Connell and Rebecca Frances Barber Connell. He was a veteran of the Untied States Marine Corps. and retired as a Sergeant Major with 30 years of service, having served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Connell was a member of First Baptist Church and the Tommy Wheeler Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Dot Logue Connell of Bainbridge, GA; his children, Marlene Farrow of Marietta, GA, Rebecca Cason and her husband, David, of Chapin, SC, Larry Connell of Webster, FL, and Roger Edmunds and his wife, Frances, of Bainbridge, GA; his grandchildren, Mary K. Johnson, Stephen Cason, Jordan Connell, Lane Connell, Clint Edmunds, and Natalie Edmunds; and his great-grandchildren, Katharyn Johnson and Kaden Johnson.
