Carolyn Ann Smith, 76, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Ivey Funeral Home with Rev. David Grubbs and Rev. Marcia McRae officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Keith Rice, Mike Rice, Russell Register, Robert Coker, Michael Merkison, Don H. Smith, Lynn Rice, and Bobby Palmer serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Ivey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born July 18, 1937 in Valdosta, Ga., the daughter of Arthur Coley Swilley and Annie Pearl Register Swilley. She was a dedicated homemaker and was a volunteer with Memorial Hospital, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and was active in the PTA while raising her children. Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, fishing, and scalloping in the Gulf of Mexico.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon D. Smith of Bainbridge; her daughter, Debbie Smith of Bainbridge; her siblings, Pauline Hinkle and her husband, Howard, of Jasper, Arkansas, and Vern Swilley and his wife, Audrey, of Greenville, Ga.; and her grandchildren, Jarad D. Smith of North Carolina, and Leslie Ann Newberry of Bainbridge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dan Smith; and her siblings, Moses Swilley, Frances Keel, Peggy Rutledge, Julian Swilley, and Mary Sparrow.
