Bainbridge track and field closes year, celebrates success

The Region 1-AAAAA champion Bainbridge High School Bearcats and the Region 1-AAAAA third place finishing Bainbridge High School Lady Cats track teams were honored for their outstanding seasons at their annual awards banquet Saturday at the Bainbridge Middle School cafeteria.
Chase Harris won the Bearcats top distance runner award and the academic award for having the top grade point average on the team. He was the Region 1-AAAAA champion in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs the past two years. He also holds the school record in both events.
Dreveon Banks received the coach’s award for his great work ethic and commitment to the distance running program.
Curtavious Marshall, a first-year team member who won the Region 1-AAAAA championship in the 300-meter and 110-meter hurdles, was honored as the most improved Bearcats runner.
Christopher Johnson, who made great strides in improving his performance in the shot put and discus the past four years, won the coach’s award for his hard work and dedication.
Lady Cat honorees were top distance runner Paige Braswell, top track and field performer Raven Burney, top field performer Asia Thomas and academic award winner Jasmine Price, who had the highest grade point average on the team.
Other honored Region 1-AAAAA champions were Dominic Douglas in the high jump, Curtiavious Marshall in the 110-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, Craig Cooper in the long jump and Chris Johnson in the shot put.
Region 1-AAAAA runner-ups included the 4-by-100-meter relay team of Shawn Herring, Tavarius Bowens, Elijah Tyler and Craig Cooper and Stephen Johnson in the triple jump.
State finalists were Chase Harris, who was third in the 3200-meter run, Dominic Douglas, who was fourth in the high jump, and Craig Cooper, who was fifth in the high jump.
West Class AAAAA State Sectional qualifiers were Curtiavious Marshall in the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles, Stephen Johnson in the triple jump, Craig Cooper in the high jump, Dominic Douglas in the high jump, Chase Harris in the 3200 meter run and Victor Bodison in the long jump.
Lady Cats Region 1-AAAAA champions were Paige Braswell in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs and Raven Burney in the long jump. Lady Cat State Class AAAAA finalists were Raven Burney, who was sixth in the ling jump, and Asia Thomas, who was eighth in the shot put. Thomas was also a Region 1-AAAAA runner-up in the discus.
