Bright from the Start, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, has announced that 64 classrooms across Georgia have each been awarded a six-week summer transition program for children who either did not attend Georgia’s Pre-K program, or attended and need additional support to be ready for Kindergarten next fall.
Catherine Gossett, project director for the Pre-K program in Decatur County, said she was very excited that Decatur County was chosen to offer this six-week summer program for rising Kindergartners. Decatur County will have one classroom that will serve 16 students.
The six-week, high quality program begins Monday, June 2, and is targeted for children whose families meet income eligibility requirements — 85 percent of the state median income. “This is a wonderful opportunity for children in Decatur County to build skills and confidence before moving into Kindergarten,” said Mrs. Gossett.
Registration will be held Tuesday, May 13 at the Decatur County Student Support Center at 507 Martin Street in West Bainbridge (the old West Bainbridge Elementary School), Room One, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m.
To qualify, a student must be age eligible for Kindergarten (age 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2014,) never enrolled in Georgia Pre-K or entered Pre-K late in the year. Additionally, all applicants must be residents of the state of Georgia.
Parents are required to bring the following documents to register:
Certified Birth Certificate, proof of address and residency, Social Security card, immunization certificate, proof of all household income.
