Bearcats hold on for late push past Syrupmakers at home

A fifth inning hit by junior Blake Merchant plated senior Greg McDonald to help squeeze the Bearcats past Cairo last Saturday.
Seth Hall then scored on an error, raising the score 5-3 and giving Bainbridge a two-run cushion for the remaining innings of the game. Senior Tate Lambert struck out three Syrupmakers in four at-bats in the top of the seventh to end the contest.
Bainbridge has finished their regular season 8-18.
Senior Dustin Strickland was 4-for-2 at the plate, scoring one run off a single by Hall in the bottom of the first. Hall was 3-for-2 and scored a run.
Lambert was 3-for-1 and also scored a run.
Cairo opened the game with a homerun to right field.
The Bearcats responded by scoring one in the first inning.
The Syrupmakers scored another run in the second inning.
They scored two more runs in the third inning when Hall singled to left field and drove in Stanton Long and Lambert.
Cairo tied it up 3-3 in the fourth inning before McDonald and Hall scored in the fifth to raise the Bearcats 5-3.
On the mound, Jordan Davis opened the first three innings, striking out two players and walking three. He allowed three earned runs, one a home run.
Tyler Braswell took over for the next three innings, allowing one hit, three walks and striking out seven players.
Lambert closed the game, allowing one hit.
