The Bainbridge Bearcat baseball team dropped two games last Friday in a tough doubleheader against Thomas County Central (8-12) at the Bainbridge fields. Game one was a 6-3 loss, followed by a 7-3 loss in game two.
The pair of losses drops the Bearcats to 6-14.
Yellow Jacket pitcher Johnathan Robinson’s seven strikeouts were enough to push TCC pastBainbridge. Robinsons allowed only one earned run, five hits and one walk over six innings.
Senior Grant McDonald was 3-for-4 in game one last and scored two runs to lead the offense. Tyler Braswell scored the third run, but it wasn’t enough to push Bainbridge past TCC for the lead. He doubled in the first and fifth innings and tripled in the seventh inning.
Tate Lambert fought on the mound but couldn’t keep the Yellow Jackets from hitting. He pitched all seven innings and allowed only three earned runs. He struck out eight and walked only one.
When the Yellow Jackets scored in the first inning, they held the lead for the rest of the game.
In the fifth inning, a bases-loaded walk from Dustin Strickland gave the Bearcats a hope for a rally, but a fly out from Seth Hall ended the inning. The Bearcats went into the sixth inning with the score 5-3. TCC scored again at the top of the seventh to put the score at 6-3.
Stanton Long took to the mound for game two and allowed only two hits and one earned run. He walked one and struck out three during his four innings, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Yellow Jackets from the win.
TCC found an early 1-0 lead, but the Bearcats racked up two runs of their own in the first inning, with Strickland and Hall both hitting RBI singles.
Bainbridge Pitcher Tyler Braswell pitched the last three innings for the Bearcats, allowing six runs in three innings, walking three and striking out three.
The Bearcats play again Friday in a doubleheader against Northside Columbus.
