Bainbridge performs well at Albany meet, Braswell sets new record

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats and Lady Cats track teams turned in strong performances at Saturday’s Smith Benson Invitational Meet at Albany’s Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium Track.
Coach Larry Cosby’s team finished second and coach Tandria Phillips’ Lady Cats finished seventh in a 21-team field. Albany’s Westover High School Patriots won the boys meet and Albany’s Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes won the girls meet.
Lady Cat Paige Braswell finished second in the 3200-meter run while setting a new school record for a second consecutive week. Her school record setting time was 11 minutes and 46 seconds. She broke her school record of 11 minutes and 59 seconds which she set Saturday, March 15, at the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets and Lady Yellow Jackets Invitational Meet.
Braswell was also second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes and 50 seconds. Bearcat Chase Harris also set a new school record in winning the boys 3200-meter run with a time of 9 minutes and 42 seconds. Harris was second in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes and 36 seconds.
Other Bearcats capturing individual first places Saturday were Dominic Douglas with a 6-foot-4-inch high jump, Curtavvious Marchall with a 15:41 110-meter hurdles time and a 40.31 300-meter hurdles time.
Capturing second places were Victor Bodison with a 21-feet-5-inch long jump, Steven Johnson with a 41-foot-11-inch triple jump and Chris Johnson with a 122-foot-1-inch discus throw.
The Bearcats 4-by-200-meter relay team of Shawn Herring, Cedric Jones, Martez Vickers and Victor Bodison finished second in the 4-by-200-meter relay with a time of 1:32.11. Charles Vickers was third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet and fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 41-feet-6-inches.
Lorenzo Mitchell was fourth in the 800-meter run 2:08.58.
Elijah Tyler was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.28. Dreyvon Banks was sixth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:53.66 and eighth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:38.42.
Taking seventh place in the 4-by-100-meter relay in a time of 43.82 was the Bearcats team of Martez Vickers, Elijah Tyler, Lorenzo Mitchell and Cedric Jnes.
Also taking seventh place in the 4-by-400-meter relay in a time of 3:36.33 was the Bearcats team of Isiah Brown, Curtis Keaton, Curtavious Marshall and Lorenzo Mitchell.
The Lady Cats Raven Burney was third in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet-6-inches and her teammate Asia Thomas was seventh in the shot put with a heave of 31-feet-9-inches and eighth in the discus with a throw of 94-feet-10-inches.
The Lady Cats 4-by-100 meter and 4-by-200 meter relay teams of Tereka Green, Tearnee Harvin, Raven Burney and Jasmine Price were third in times of 50.35 and 1:52.02.
Their 4-by-400-meter relay teams of Deandria Green Jasmine Price Raven Burney and Tereka Green and Tereka Green, Tearnee Harvin Raven Burney and Jasmine Price were fifth and sixth in times of 4:25.44 and 4:32.42.
