The Harrell sisters are Westwood state champs. Again.
Bainbridge sisters Rachel and Perra Harrell helped lead Camilla’s Westwood Academy Lady Wildcats to their second consecutive Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) state AA basketball championship.
The Lady Wildcats won the state championship Saturday, March 8, with a 50-46 victory over the Briarwood Academy Lady Buccaneers at Mercer University’s Hawkins Arena in Macon.
Rachel Harrell hit two free throws late in the game to seal the victory.
“I knew if I made both free throws, the game was over,” Harrell told Albany Herald reporter Tim Moore after the game. “I just tried to make them.”
During Westwood’s 58-26 victory over Sherwood Academy’s Lady Eagles on February 4, senior guard Rachel Harrell, who signed a basketball scholarship with Florida’s Saint Leo University Lady Lions last November, eclipsed the 2,000 point mark while leading the way for coach Jenni Smith’s Lady Wildcats. She finished her career with 2,180 points. Her sister Perra Harrell was also in double figures with 13 points.
Rachel and Perra are the daughters of Mike and Leslie Harrell.
