Decatur County School Board District 6 incumbent Jacky Grubbs qualified for the May 2014 primaries last week.
Grubbs has one opponent in the non-partisan race, Marvin Thomas, who qualified early last week.
Grubbs is the owner and operator of El Dorendo Auto Sales in Colquitt and has served in the District 6 position for the last 16 years.
“I want to see all of these kids get a good education and I did not have the opportunities that they have,” Grubbs said about his vision for the school system in Decatur County. “I did graduate, but there were a lot of opportunities I did not have that I want these children to have.”
Grubbs said the focus of his campaign will be increasing school safety and work to prepare students for the workforce and not just graduation or secondary education.
“I would also love to see the opportunity arise for the furlow days with the school personnel to end,” Grubbs said, who added he would also like to see class sizes decrease.
Grubbs is the Sunday School director at the First Church of the Nazarene.
He has a wife, Diane, who works in the school system and two daughters, Melissa Bryant and Mandy Thompson.
