It may be easy to dismiss financial identity theft as something that will never happen to you. But it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Anyone can become a victim, but studies have shown that the elderly are at an especially high risk.
According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, elderly people are often times less comfortable with digital platforms and the Internet, making them less likely to check bank statement regularly.
Elderly in Decatur County should make sure to check their statements often. If they aren’t using the Internet, a quick trip by their bank a couple times a week will help keep them fully up to date on their transactions. Anything peculiar can be caught early and traced.
Elderly in Decatur County should shop online with vendors they recognize and trust.
They should never share information with anyone through email or unrecognized websites. If a loved one falls victim to identity theft, contact your bank immediately.
