Lady Cats split match ups last weekend

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats divided two Region 1AAAAA basketball games over the weekend.
Friday they lost 52-41 to the Northside Columbus High School Lady Patriots on the road and Saturday they defeated Columbus’s Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks 36-2 at home on senior night.
Senior players honored Saturday were DeAndrea Green, Ni’Jala Jackson, Teena Jeffery and Dixie Landy.
Senior cheerleaders honored Saturday were Austin Taylor, Haley Chandler, Alisha Goss, Jocelyn Grimsley, ReQuan Parris, Jasmine Sheffield and Jamaria Washington.
Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his team started strong against the Lady Patriots Friday in Columbus, jumping out to an 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but had some problems finishing
“We started strong but we did not finish well,” Cochran said. “We have got to sustain our good play for four quarters.”
The Lady Cats jumped out to an early 5-0 lead against the Lady Patriots. Beonka match put them up 2-0 when she hit a driving layup with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter. Tameria Levens followed with a jumper from the left side at the 6:20 mark to increase the advantage to 4-0. A free throw by Madge at the 5:11 mark made it 5-0.
Jessica Herndon’s layup off the left glass with 2:02 remaining pulled the Lady Patriots even at 5-5 and they went on to take a 21-16 led at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Cats reclaimed the lead 23-21 when Longesha Emanuel hit two free throws at the 2:01 mark of the second quarter. Jasmin Herndon of the Lady Patriots hit a free throw with 24 seconds left to cut it to 23-22 — and that is the way the first half ended.
The Lady Patriots took a five-point lead at 28-23 when Taylor hit a layup off the right glass with 6:15 remaining in the third quarter. They led 40-31 entering the fourth quarter.
Leading the way for the Lady Cats was Emanuel with 12 points. Patra Parris, Alexandria Carter and Madge each scored eight points. Levins added four points and Alexis Russ put in one point. Taylor Jakes led the Lady Patriots with 21 points. Her teammate Jasmin Herndon was also in double figures with 12 points.
Saturday against Hardaway’s Lady Golden Hawks the Lady Cats took an early 4-0 took an early 4-0 lead on consecutive layups by Patra Parris at the 6:50 and 6:30 marks of the first quarter. They led 11-8 at the end of the quarter.
They went up by double digits at 25-15 when Carter hit a three-point jumper from the right baseline with 2:17 left in the second quarter.
Parris led the Lady Cats Saturday with 19 points. Carter put in nine points, Emanuel scored seven points and Levens scored one point.
The Lady Cats went up 13-11 when Alexandra Carter hit a hit a jammer from the left baseline with 3:10 showing on the second quarter clock. They trailed 15-14 at halftime. The Lady Cats, who were 10-11 overall and 4-4 in Region 1-AAAAA play following the weekend, played the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets in a Region 1-AAAAA game on the road Tuesday.
They will travel to Leesburg Wednesday for a Region 1-AAAAA game against the Lee County High School Lady Trojans. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 28, but was postponed and rescheduled for Wednesday because of cold weather.
