Kathryn M. Hunter, 85, of Miami, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at Hall-Ferguson-Hewitt Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Johnny White officiating.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Lakeland, Fla. on Aug. 2, 1928, to the late Mr. Charles Howard and Zelma West-Howard. She was raised in Bainbridge, Ga. and received her education in the Decatur County Public Schools and Morris Brown College.
She retired in 1993 after 35 years of service in the hotel industry. She was loved by everyone, and passionately called NaNa by her grandkids and others. She also loved working in her yard.
As a young adult she moved to Miami, where she met and married Mr. James Idus Hunter. Four children were born to this union, two of whom, Barry D. Hunter Sr. and Alec S. Hunter, preceded her in death. In addition, she was preceded in death by her husband, and by two brothers, Charles Howard and Thomas J. Howard.
Survivors include one son, James Michael Hunter of Miami; her only devoted daughter, Karen Racheller Hunter-Lanier (Gregory Sr.); one sister, Elma Joyce Baker of Bainbridge; granddaughters, Torri Anderson (Damion), LaTavia Green (Alphonso), La’Trecia Lanier, Alecandris Hunter; grandsons, Barry Hunter Jr., Darrius Lawshea (Johanna), Gregory Jones Jr.; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Hall-Ferguson-Hewitt Mortuary of Miami was in charge of arrangements.
