Coach Kelvin Cochran’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team dropped a 54-29 decision to the Colquitt County High School Lady Packers last Tuesday in Moultrie.
Alexandria Carter topped the Lady Cats scoring chart with 11 points. Asia Gordon and Tameka Levens added five apiece. Makela Gordon of the Lady Packers took game scoring honors with 22 points. Her teammate Beshala Polite added 17.
The Lady Packers led 15-5 at the end of the first quarter. They outscored the Lady Cats 9-5 in the second quarter to build their halftime lead to 24-10.
A 9-4 third quarter scoring advantage sent the Bearcats to the final quarter with a 33-14 lead. They then outscored the Lady Cats 21-15 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Coach Cochran said he thought his team played well but turnovers continue to plague them.
“Turnovers and missed shot opportunities hurt us,” he said. “We had several shots go in and just rim out. That is the way basketball is. Some times the majority of your shots will stay down and other times they will rim out.
“Give Colquitt County credit. They are always strong. And drive to the basket with authority. We have been slowed some by ankle injuries but they are coming around. We just have to continue to work and get better and I am confident that we will.”
The Lady Cats and Lady Packers got together again Tuesday at the Bearcats gymnasium The Lady Cats will host the Thomasville High School Lady Bulldogs Friday at 6 p.m. at the Bearcats gymnasium.
The Lady Cats will participate in the Thomasville High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs Holiday Hoopfest Dec. 26-28.Their first Hoopfest game will be Dec. 26 against Terrell County.
