Coach Amy Thomas’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team placed four players on the 2013 All-Region 1AAAAA team.
They were honored at the Monday, Dec. 2, softball banquet at The Charter House Inn. Third baseman Laura Griner, the Lady Cats offensive player of the year, and pitcher Brooke Bates, the Lady Cats defensive player of the year, made first team. Catcher Lindsey Griner and outfielder Anna Bar made the second team.
Griner batted 373, drove in 10 runs and scored 20 runs. Bates pitched in 67 innings in 11 games, threw 868 pitches, threw 621 strikes and struck out 87 batters.
Outfielder Anna Barber, who batted 353, will continue her softball career at Thomas University next season. Catcher Caitlyn Dunlap, will be continuing her softball career at Andrew College next season. Dunlap also did some pitching for the Lady Cats.
Lady Cats head coach Amy Thomas said four people making the All Region 1AAAAA team and two players getting college softball scholarships are great accomplishments
“The four young ladies who made All Region 1AAAAA are very deserving,” she said. “The other Region 1AAAAA coaches recognized their talent and that is rewarding.”
Thomas said the companionship of the team is one thing that helped them reach their goals.
“I consider our overall season successful because our players bounded together remained totally focused on achieving their goals. That is extremely important in team sports. We are already looking forward to next season.”
Assistant coach Dennis Cato agreed and pointed out that he and coach Thomas greatly appreciated that hard work and dedication exhibited by the team all season.
