The Bainbridge Middle School seventh grade Lady Cats and Bearcats basketball teams split two Tuesday games with the Whigham Middle School seventh grade Lady Indians and Indians at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
In the opener, coach Dorothy Pierce’s Lady Cats stopped a tight 20-18 decision to the Lady Indians.
In the nightcap, coach Patrick Clark’s Bearcats defeated the Indians 47-16.
Zycheria Russ led the Lady Cats with 7 points. Mycha Harris added 6 and Keoyna Crankfield put in three, Takemia Campbell scored two.
Alex Baker led the Bearcats with 13 points. Timothy Allison added eight and Kenya Hughes and Kalyn Brown scored seven apiece.
Rounding out the Bearcats scoring chart were Jeremiah Davis with five, Bryce Jones and Deovion West with four each Savion Worlds with three, Kalyn Brown with two and Justin Campbell with one.
Lady Cats’ coach Pierce said she thought her team played hard but turnovers ended up being a major cost to them.
“We had the lead some, but you have to give Whigham credit,” she said. “They made key baskets in clutch situations”
Bearcats coach Patrick Clark said he thought his team played exceptional basketball against the Indians.
“Our players are really starting to execute the offense more efficiently,” he said. “They are sharing the ball on offense and pressing the ball on defense. Team fouls were very limited and we did an outstanding job of sliding our feet and not reaching for the basketball.”
The Lady Cats (1-4) and the Bearcats (4-1) will host the Thomas County Central Middle School seventh grade Lady Yellow Jackets and Yellow Jackets Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum.
