Lady Cats take weekend losses

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team dropped two games Friday and Saturday at Albany’s Westover High School Lady Patriots Invitational Tournament.
On Friday, they bowed 74-51 to Albany’s Monroe High School Lady Tornadoes and on Saturday they bowed 46-37 to the home standing Westover High School Lady Patriots.
The Lady Cats open their regular season Saturday when they host Thomasville High School at 6 p.m.
Against the Lady Tornadoes, Alexandria Carter led the Lady Cats with 21 points. Patra Parris was also in double figures with 11. Tameka Levens added five. Kisshandie Pierce of the Lady Tornadoes took game scoring honors with 26 points.
The Lady Tornadoes led 22-6 at the end of the first quarter. They outscored the Lady Cats 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 35-13 halftime lead. A 22-15 third quarter scoring edge sent the Lady Tornadoes to the fourth quarter with a 57-28 lead. The Lady Cats outscored them 23-17 in the fourth quarter.
Parris led the Lady Cats against the Lady Patriots with 17 points. Levens added eight and Carter put in six, The Lady Cats led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tornadoes outscored them 11-3 in the second quarter to take a 20-13 halftime lead. An 11-7 third quarter scoring edge sent the Lady Tornadoes to the fourth quarter with a 31-20 lead. The Lady Cats had a 17-15 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.
Lady Cats coach Kelvin Cochran said he thought his players did well.
“We hustled, played hard and did some good things on defense,” Cochran said “We drove to the basket well but missed some layups in key situations. I am proud of the young ladies dedication and effort.”
