Bearcat softball teams end season with banquet

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats varsity and junior varsity softball teams were honored at their annual awards banquet Monday night at the Charter House Inn.
Awards were presented by head coach Amy Thomas and assistant coach Dennis Cato.
Varsity award winners included offensive player of the year Laura Griner who batted 373 with 10 runs batted in and 20 runs scored and defensive player of the year Brooke Bates who had a strong pitching season.
Bates pitched 67 innings in 11 games, having 868 total pitches and 621 total strikes. She struck out 87 batters.
Other varsity honorees included coaches’ award winner LaShea Williams, who pitched and played first, second and third base and academic award winner and scholar athlete Maegan Harrison who had a 98.0 grade point average. Morgan Phillips who has a 97.75 and Anna Barber, who has a 93.458 grade point average are also scholar athletes.
Anna Barber batted 353 with a home run and Lindsey Griner batted 339. Griner and Magen Vaughn had outstanding fielding percentages of 984 and 974.
Junior varsity awards went to Haley Thompson as offensive player of the year and Taylor Swanner as defensive player of the year. Thompson batted 375 with nine stolen bases and Swanner had a fielding percentage in excess of 800. Swanner pitched and played shortstop, second base and third base.
Other junior varsity awards went to Ty Gant, the stolen base leader with 20, Derrical Williams as most improved player and Tori Sprenkle, who pitched and played first and third base as coaches award winner.
