Lady Cats conclude season

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats dropped two games in the Region 1AAAAASoftball Tournament this week in Leesburg to conclude their season.

In the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, the Northside Columbus High School Lady Patriots edged the Lady Cats 3-2.

The Lady Cats, who out hit the Lady Patriots four to three, scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the Lady Patriots scored single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings.

In the other Tuesday Region 1AAAAA Tournament action, the host Lee County High School Lady Trojans posted back-to-back shut out victories. They blanked the Hardaway High School Lady Golden Hawks 15-0 and the Thomas County Central High School High School Lady Yellow Jackets 5-0.

On Wednesday, the Harris County High School Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Trojans 9-1 and the Lady Cats lost 12-0 to the Thomas County Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets. The Lady Cats banged out five hits.

The Harris County High School Lady Tigers are the Region 1AAAAA champions, the Thomas Central High School Lady Yellow Jackets finished second and the host Lee County High School Lady Trojans finished third. All three teams will advance to the State Class AAAAA Tournament Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 in Columbus.

Lady Cats coach Amy Thomas said she was proud of the team’s efforts throughout the season.

“We had some injuries, but we hung in there and played hard every game,” Thomas said. “We made some good comebacks.”
