Spencer P. Davis, 87, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 at Riverside Place.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Shepard and Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davis-Williams Scholarship Fund, Bainbridge High School, 1 Bearcat Blvd., Bainbridge, GA 39817; or Gentiva Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819; or a charity of your choice.

Mr. Davis was born Feb. 5, 1926 in Dido, La., the son of John Henry Davis and Frances Gibson Davis. He was a graduate of Bay High School, earned a bachelor’s degree from Troy State, and earned a master’s degree from Florida State University. Mr. Davis was a teacher, coach, and principal in Bainbridge and served as superintendent of Americus City School System. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and was a past president for the Americus Rotary Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Martin Davis; and his second wife, Jeannine Brooks Wester Davis.

Survivors include his daughters, Diane Davis Coakley and her husband, Don, of Mexico Beach, Fla. and Fran Davis Reynolds and her husband, Len, of Camilla, Ga.; his sons, Spencer Davis and his wife, Anne, of Albany, Ga. and John Davis and his wife, Tanya, of Valdosta, Ga.; his sister Rose Davis of Panama City Beach, Fla.; his nine grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
